  • Latino Climate Justice Framework (LCJF) ¡Luchando por la Liberación Ambiental!

Marco Latino de Justicia Climática (LCJF) ¡Luchando por la Liberación Ambiental!

The Latino Climate Justice Framework (LCJF) provides a blueprint that Latino/a/xs across the country can turn to as they advocate for climate solutions in their communities. The framework is divided into three chapters that cover issues like improving the transportation and electrical grid system, cleaning up abandoned oil wells, boosting community resilience, increasing equitable access to nature, comprehensive immigration reform, and more. The goal is to outline the common interests and perspectives of Latino/a/x communities in the climate policy discourse and provide a vision of how climate and environmental justice solutions can adequately respond to the unique problems and needs faced by Latino/a/x communities across the nation.

Latino/a/x communities are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis and face barriers to accessing clean energy, clean transportation, and climate resilient infrastructure. The framework outlines solutions to address these disparities, including investing in community-based renewable energy, protecting farmworkers, providing equitable access to water infrastructure, and ensuring Latino/a/x representation in decision-making processes.

    Latino Climate & Health Dashboard

El Latino Climate & Health Dashboard is a new resource from the University of California, Los Angeles Latino Policy and Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI) that provides localized data on how extreme heat, air pollution, and health disparities are affecting Latino communities across California. GreenLatinos (GL) collaborated on the development of this tool to help ensure it reflects the realities and needs of impacted communities.

Protecting our comunidades: a statement from GreenLatinos

    **Seguido en Español**

What began as a predominantly peaceful protest against cruel and inhumane immigration raids evolved into scenes of chaos due to the aggressive and uncalled for use of tear gas, rubber bullets, flash-bang grenades, and pepper balls by law enforcement on nonviolent protesters and journalists. GreenLatinos stands in solidarity with the Los Angeles community, which is currently under the visible threat from ICE, the National Guard, and the Marines. It is unimaginable that this administration would use the United States Military to attack its own people.

Our communities deserve safe, just, and dignified treatment, and for their constitutional rights to free speech, the right to assemble, and peacefully protest, to be respected. They should not suffer from  tactics, rooted in fear, force, and division, meant to intimidate and prevent the utilization of these rights. The indiscriminate detention of immigrants and the lack of due process for those who contribute to our nation’s economy and cultural richness have only deepened social unrest. These actions are being used by this administration to distract us from the current federal attack on California’s environmental protections, undermining our public lands, air quality, and public health.

As the threat of ICE raids continues, please refer to the following list of support resources and know-your-rights information to protect our community.
